- What do you see as some of the biggest challenges facing Anglicans today?
- To not get so caught up in “Anglicanism” and church polity that we forget what biblical faith is all about – trusting Jesus with our life, allowing him to teach us how to live and how to love, and having him transform us in the depths of our inner being. Our challenge is to make apprenticeship to Jesus Christ our primary focus as Anglicans, and yet to do so in a way that is “authentically Anglican.” We also need to rethink the biblical vision of what it means to be the ekklesia in the context of an emergent, postmodern culture. I’m not suggesting that the traditional model has to go. But I am saying that there are many in our world, and the number is only getting bigger, for whom the traditional church no longer speaks. Our challenge is to work with God in creative ways so that postmodern eyes are opened, and discipleship to Jesus emerges as the only sensible way to live.
- What do you see as some of the biggest opportunities for Anglicans today?
- The same as the challenges. People are thirsty and the church knows the source of Living Water. The nature of being human is to find something, anything, to quench our thirst – whether it is good or bad, healthy or unhealthy. The great challenge is to bring others to Jesus. The great opportunity is to bring others to Jesus.
- What do you want Anglimergent to be? and what other Anglimergent resources, gatherings, activities or events would you find helpful for your ministry?
- A place where ideas can be shared and where people on a common mission can interact. We’re all on a journey. It’s good to have others to walk with.
