Anglimergent

Anglimergent in the United States came from seeds of hope that were planted in the hearts and minds of Phyllis Tickle, Karen Ward, Howard Anderson, Devon Anderson, and myself. These seeds were nurtured by the writings and appearances of Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones, and a whole host of emergent and not-so-emergent types.

In February 2008, Anglimergent took on organizational life as interested individuals were called together in Minneapolis for a two day conversation about the hopes, dreams, desires, and support Episcopalians with an emerging ethos can share. This event was partially sponsored by a committee of the national Episcopal church, which covered travel, food, and lodging expenses. You can review the notes of that meeting elsewhere on the Anglimergent site.

With much passion and spirited conversation, it was clear to everyone at the February meeting that the time was right for some organized and ongoing dialogue and advocacy. Everyone agreed to continue the conversation both online at the Anglimergent ning site and in person through future meetings. Anglimergent met again in August in Seattle (this time on our own individual dimes) and in December at The Great Emergence in Memphis.

At each of these subsequent meetings, the relationships, partnerships, inspiration, and hopefulness continued to foster and support a sense of purpose and importance to the Anglimergent conversation.

So, here we are, a year later, with a full year of organizing under our belts, and Anglimergent is preparing to gather yet again to explore what is next. We are seeking to answer questions about organization, structure, vision, message and organizing. Dixon Kinser and Fred Burnham have put together a proposed structure for Anglimergent organizing that includes three organizing entities, working groups, a cabinet, and a community gathering.

Also, Anglimergent will be considering how to organize around some major upcoming events, including General Convention in July and a possible House of Bishop's presentation.

So sorry for this Ian (and other global Anglimergents). To be correct the meeting in San Francisco was Anglimergent **TEC** (The Episcopal Church) NOT 'Anglimergent.'
We all need to be precise when posting things to avoid appearing colonialist.
When UK meets it is **Anglimergent UK**, when Canada meets it is **Anglimergent Canada.** When we meet in the USA, if it is pan USA Anglican = TEC, CANA, and AMIA met together it is ** Anglimgergent USA** and it is *Anglimergent **TEC** when it is Episcopal Church USA folk only, which it was in San Francisco.

Let us all be more mindful of our global community ongoing as we post things to be precise. Cheers

OK - just talked to Karen Ward about this. Wendy - can you be careful to distinguish Anglimergent TEC and Anglimergent the global network. There is an important difference between the two

Just an appeal for People on this list to remember that Anglimergent is not an American only thing. It is a global thing and includes people in Europe and Australasia. People in the UK have had important voices in this movement including myself, so please can we keep this open ended and not just a USA thing. Wendy - your write up on Anglimergent feels very American elitist. May I mention the contribution of Mike Riddell, Mark Pierson, Dave Tomlinson, Jonny Baker, myself and others who have been committed to emerging and fresh expressions of church for the last 20 years or so - so please - the Emerging Church and Anglimergent is much wider and needs to be recognised as such.

Yep, I am planning to have Twitter going real time so that anyone offsite can participate through tweets.

Wendy-

Thanks for posting this! For those of us who wished we could be there but aren't that this information and twittering will be available genuinely extends the community!

If twitter functions properly, real time responses to tweets from the meeting could make their way into the meeting as well I'm guessing?;)

Thanks again for the links too!

Joshua
