Are We Allowed to Emerge Yet?

As a brand new Episcopal, you have an 86-year-old 17-year veteran of Episcopalianism to thank for my 'emergence' into the flock. She studied all the existing literature on emergent churches, wrote several dissertations on the what, whys and hows of being emergent and I was swayed.

The Extraordinary Ordinary

Last weekend I saved someone's life. Literally.



One of the members of the parish I am at went up to lay read, and he looked disoriented and his speech slurred pretty badly. As I listened to him, I immediately flashed back to my CPR/First Aid training, and realized he had the classic signs of a stroke.

Its Christmas...Kinda

I was at work today and a woman commented that she didn't like Christmas. This would not be too odd of a comment, except that I work in a garden center, and I was in the process of putting up a Christmas tree. I thought it was mildly humorous, but it also got me thinking about Christmas itself.



If you view Christmas as a secular holiday where you get days off, attend parties and get gifts, then I can see how disillusionment can set in. If you view Christmas as a time of merchandising… Continue
