“Prayer is the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words usually seem worth reading but rarely move me to action. So why I felt as though suddenly struck by lightning upon reading these words the other night is beyond me. Truth be told, I wasn’t even reading Emerson at the time I stumbled across them. I was reading an essay about him by Mary Oliver in her book Long Life: Essays and other Writings. She went on to say “and suddenly…

This weekend many Mexicans will be celebrating all Souls (Dia de los Muertos) to honor and cherish their loved ones. Christ Church Parish in Mexico City will be celebrating our third U2/MIsa to commemorate the heroes of the last century who have struggled for peace, justice, inclusion, and tolerance in our world. I feel we need more prophetic voices both outside and inside the church. Do any of your commuities celebrate "Dia de Los Muertos" with…

It was a lot of points, somewhat legalistic and at the end of a convention booklet. So when the discussion started, a paragraph jumped out at…

In order to increase conversation and traffic on the site, we in the Episcopal Church group (TEC) has set up this little rotation of bloggers. I'm the first up. And, frankly, I haven't posted sooner it's difficult to know where to start.
I wonder if we don't all feel this way at the beginning of something. Beginnings matter, right? In the beginning God created...In the beginning was the word...
We are beginning our conversation about planting an 'emerging' community in…

I've just been reading Jonny Baker's Blog (http://jonnybaker.blogs.com/jonnybaker/). Jonny has been reading Clay Shirky's Book, "Here comes everybody" and blogging on his thoughts. As part of this he has posted a thought-provoking treatment of 1 Corinthians 12, which I thought I would bring to your notice.
So often we can become overfamiliar with scripture, but this really made me think about my place, and the place of my church in the developing new landscapes of church, which I presume…

I've just finished listening to the unabridged book-on-CD version of
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and am now starting in on the audio-book
Good to Great.
The first observation of
Good to Great hit me pretty hard: "Good is the enemy of Great." The gist is that organizations/companies/movements/individuals don't move to being "great" because they are satisfied with "good".
That made me think both the community to which I belong (St.…

Christ Church in Mexico City will be celebrating it's third U2/Misa in Spanish this time in the historical downtown church built in 1895, now designated to be a cultural project of the British American Museum in Mexico City, an outreach project of Christ Church Parish. These eucharists have brought together so many people from many walks of life and have been very ecumenical in flavor so much so that the Jesuit University in Puebla will be having their first U2/Misa in November of this year…
