Charlie Rose, et al

I just finished watching the Thursday night edition of "Charlie Rose." For those who may not know him, his talk show is literate and his guests are truly interesting drawn from, generally, the serious pursuits of the arts, science, literature, politics, etc. and even, occasionally, religion.

Tonight's first topic was the judicial overturning of California's Propostion 8. All three guests were in favor of the ruling and welcomed it as another significant advance in the history…

Just published a book on my great-grandfather, who was described in an academic journal as being "Not a typical or uncontroversial fundamentalist;" it ended up becoming the title of this little book.

He was a really interesting character: a fundamentalist (dispensationalist, no less) lay preacher, he was a major grain baron, multi-millionaire, and all around complex guy. He believed that the typical fundamentalist hang-ups over drinking and smoking were completely…
