I thought it had the feel of a "demonstration" -- which is really more of what it was. Most of us there really prefer a different kind of worship (obviously; otherwise, we'd be hanging out with some emerging house church somewhere). Any liturgy, when separated from the community for which it is intended/to which it belongs has that somewhat two-dimensional character about it. To experience it the way it was intended, one would have to visit such a community and enter into their worship; that comes closer to accomplishing what I think was intended. I'm not ragging on the liturgy or any part of it, just aware that nearly all of the principles espoused by Ian and Isaac went out the window in the practice: it wasn't a liturgy crafted by the people in the room and that, unfortunately, diminished it. And I didn't need to be "converted;" I'm fully supportive of the principles -- been practicing many of them for years, as you know. Thank YOU for all the support you give to campus ministry -- the boldest expression of emerging church in this diocese of the last three decades and more! I've been working on an article on Edna Biller, who founded the ministry at Brent House and have discovered that she was practicing a lot of the same principles in 1925. As usual, campus ministry leads the way! And, by the way, the clergy weren't too thrilled that much of what she did was out of their control! It's an interesting story.
I know! I have put them in the closet. Woohoo! I'm looking forward to your supply work @ CHN while Aimee's out. I'll be there the 22nd.
I was telling Jeff that those who are already doing the emerging church liturgies/rituals/prayer disciplines are the youth and college students. And one of the benefits of my 'finance office hat' is that he's all for supporting what we need being funded, at least minimally, and officially in the budget as a line item. What did you think of Thursday night?
Welcome to Anglimergent!!! I said that I was ECUSA at first too, then I changed it to TEC, but I think after all that angst yesterday, today I'll follow suit and be PECUSA too. See how easy it is to define and redefine yourself on the web!!! e
