America and Britain: some comments arising from Phyllis Tickle on an 18-month window

Phyllis Tickle has written an intriguing post on the Emergent Village Blog.  Here’s a sample: Within the next eighteen to twenty-four months, denominations and established communions and the Christians who constitute them will decide, consciously or simply by default, whether “church” is first and foremost an experience of communal bonding, spiritual and religious expression, growth in [...]

Mac OS X 10.6

The announcement this week that Apple were releasing the latest update for the Mac operating system has been much reported. Apple stated a while ago that this latest release was more about refinements than new features, but sometimes refinements are better. The upgrade price from Leopard is merely £25, which raises the question as to [...]

The Bible in One Hour: Talks 1 – 5 are now available.

Simon Taylor (partner in crime at virtualtheology.net and elsewhere) is drawing his summer series, The Bible in One Hour, to a close next week with a final talk on the Book of Revelation. However, five of the six talks are now available on the website for downloading on virtualtheology.net together with the associated handouts. They [...]

The Bible in One Hour – first talk now available

Simon’s first talk in the current virtualtheology.net series, The Bible in One Hour, is now available on the website. Thanks to Niall Briggs for providing the server space. The talk deals with the whole Bible. Following talks will take a particular book as their focus.

OK Karen - could you suggest a week or so that would be good for you? Sometime in the period between September 1st and - say - October 4th? Are you intending to go to Greenbelt this year?

I got it. No problem re: Fuller. It would be great to hang out with you for some days in Seattle and Portland, as there are many emerging places you can visit in each city.

Cheers

Paul, Ryan is at rbolger@mac.com. a new email.

I'd love to sit in with you in a class (even only for a few days) to share experiences of emergent Anglicanism in the USA with Fuller Students.

Cheers

Hi Travis

Sure - when are you hoping to come over to the UK?

Hey Paul, my name is Travis. Karen Ward sent me your way. I am a graduating seminary student interested in the Emerging Church. I just received a Fellowship to study the Emerging Church in the UK and am trying to gather some contacts so as to plan out this next year of my life. If you could pass along some information about people and communities that would be good to check out, I would be really, really thankful. Thank, Paul, and I look forward to hearing from you.

OK Karen - that sound like fun! At the moment I'm struggling with contacting Ryan as I'm getting email bounces from his fuller address, but I left him a phone message today so maybe that's going to provoke some kind of response. From my POV, I need to know dates for booking flights etc. I'll send you more information via email when I've got it, then I'm hoping to be in a position to book visits to Seattle (incl Portland) plus visits to other EC luminaries along the way. I'll run you're idea past Ryan to see what he thinks.

Yes Karen - I will be in the US for nearly three months. The study leave runs from beginning September to end November. I'm investigating the possibility of some teaching at Fuller, so at the moment I'm not sure when/whether I will have to be in Pasadena at some point, and when I'll be free to come over to Seattle. Sorry about this uncertainty, but once I know my availability I'll let you know. Well done for setting up Anglimergent by the way!
