Hey listen everyone who has taken part in this little exchange with me; on Sunday April 26 I presented four adults for confirmation, two of whom were baptized in that same liturgy. This exchange of thoughts and comments proved very helpful to me in…

Kevin, I'm with you 100% in saying it doesn't make sense to rquire adults who are baptized to redo their affirmation. And your question about laying-on of hands and chrism points to the ambiguities of the full rite of baptism in Catholic tradition (…

One of the best explanations of the historical development of confirmation in Anglicanism (and other Christian traditions) is Gerard Austin's book Anointing with the Spirit: The Rite of Confirmation. As for the practice of confirmation in TEC today…

Two years ago I began a transition from rector to full-time work with All Saints Company (that founded St. Gregory's). Rick and I are both with All Saints now. Our work as it's shaping up is featured at www.allsaiantscompany.org. Biggest upcoming national/international piece will be our sixth 'Music that Makes Community' conference/workshop at Trinity, Copley Square, Boston.

Paul Fromberg is the rector at St. Gregory's and Sara Miles (author of Take this Bread) is director of ministry. I use the past tense only to mark that I have other responsibilities now. i don't know what Paul and the church will be doing about confirmation, but go gladly say that St. Gregory's is thriving under Paul's leadership. The Anglimergent gathering will be there starting this weekend.

What you do for fun and re-creation?
Listen to jazz, read, run, drink coffee, and enjoy life
What do you see as some of the biggest challenges facing Anglicans today?
The fact that our divisions are actually keeping us from speaking with each other across dividing lines, and so are keeping us from actually being the Body of Christ.
What do you see as some of the biggest opportunities for Anglicans today?
Listen, learn, pray. We're on the cusp of what could be the most significant upheaval in the church since the Reformation, and we're at risk of missing it all.
What do you want Anglimergent to be? and what other Anglimergent resources, gatherings, activities or events would you find helpful for your ministry?
Good to have a place to share the stuff we've been developing, and to have a look at what is happening elsewhere. Is that what "they" call "networking?" Bloody awful cliche, but actually a valuable thing to do...

Anyone making sense of the rite of Confirmation these days?

Hi all,
Listen, I'm just wanting to check around and see what people are doing with Confirmation these days... that proverbial rite in search of a theology. In my own context - www.stbenedictstable.ca - we practice open table, but do put real emphasis on baptism. I could rehearse some of what informs that; I've done so in a little book we've published on this topic. I'm going to assume that many of you have also come to a place of seeing participation in communion as being, at least for some peo… Continue
