What you do for fun and re-creation?
Watch films - especially cool, surreal arty-type ones like Lost in Translation and Donnie Darko, and the good old action film. Playing video games and watching others play them - oh and I had an addiction problem with the TV series House, but I think I'm getting over it.
What do you see as some of the biggest challenges facing Anglicans today?
Re-examining the way we do everything so that it fits in with our theology - which also mean re-examining our theology. Creating environments where there is real, authentic belonging, but also the desire to interact and include - producing communities who, in the process of looking inwards find themselves drawn to look outwards.
What do you see as some of the biggest opportunities for Anglicans today?
The opportunity to re-discover a communal faith, where everyone plays a part and everyone contributes. And the opportunity to re-discover spirituality without the boundaries which have previously been placed on it by organized religion.... or something like that...
What do you want Anglimergent to be? and what other Anglimergent resources, gatherings, activities or events would you find helpful for your ministry?
Mainly a place for dialogue and conversation. A place where I can ask questions that I wouldn't dare ask otherwise - and have fun finding possible solutions. Any events or activities which help stimulate that are onto a winner I think.

A little about me

I work on the leadership team for a missional Christian community called The Lab in Newport in South Wales (UK), whilst I study for a degree in Youth and community work and applied theology at the Centre for Youth Ministry, based in Bristol. My family home is in Aberystwyth in West Wales, and I was born in Canterbury in Kent 19 years ago. In a few months I'll be 20 - I'm already dreading the loss of my teenagerness.

Oh, and I blog at James Henley Blog.

Hi James. My name is Matt and My wife and I are leaving this weekend to come to the UK to spend some time at L'Abri in Greatham in southern England. I was wondering if you have had any contact with them or knew anything of the program. Also if you have any suggestions about anything we must do while there. Thanks.

Anglimergent: Anglican + Emergent = ?

It's really interesting looking through the different people in the Anglimergent network and the very different places we all seem to come from. What it is that makes us all Anglican seems reasonably clear, but what it is that makes us all emergent is less so. Also, what is it that makes an Anglimergent worldview different from Presbymergent, Luthermergent, Convergent,… Continue

Equality (or "why doesn't everyone get to do stuff in church?")

If we really believe that everyone is equal, then what huge effect would that have on the way we are and do "church"?

Talked a little about equality at the Lab last weekend, and this was the main question that hit me from the point of view of someone who has the privilege of leading and shaping our church community.

It would be silly to try and convince ourselves that every has the same level of skill and ability in every area - sure some people are better at

Food and belonging

A couple of times over the last week or so different people have made comments to me about how eating together helps to grow community. Even just thinking about it, it seems bizarre that the simple act of sitting down and eating can do so much to bring people together. In The Search to Belong, Joe Myers talks alot about creating heContinue
