Music that Makes Community - Trinity, Boston

It looks like singing (except singing along with recorded performers in private) is dying in our culture. Isn't this a place where the church has got to be counter-cultural?Why do we sing? We sing together when we're gathered (and at our best at every gathering) because singing shapes us into collaborators, people who literally share a common inspiration. Singing speaks from and to our soul and spirit as spoken discourse can't. Singing fills the air with praise and makes the silent resonant…See More

Donald Schell commented on Jamie Howison's blog post Anyone making sense of the rite of Confirmation these days?
"The puzzle about confirmation comes directly from a 1979 Prayer Book compromise. The drafters of the book wanted to omit Confirmation and replace it with a pastorally-prompted 'Adult Reaffirmation of Faith,' something people would do when…"

What do you see as some of the biggest challenges facing Anglicans today?
valuing one another enough to sustain conversation.
What do you see as some of the biggest opportunities for Anglicans today?
worldwide networking thanks to travel, internet, and broad cultural curiosity appreciation (Spirit-inspired counter-weight to xenophobia and hostile tribalism that also marks our time, our society, and our church).
What do you want Anglimergent to be? and what other Anglimergent resources, gatherings, activities or events would you find helpful for your ministry?
Wake ourselves to habitual assumptions of what we can (or can't) do, what's worth talking about, and what's just 'given' that convenience keeps reintroducing. Break through talking about to talking TO, yes substantial reflection, but in a committed relational context. Learning to listen for and speak the truth in Love to one another.

Donald,
Wanted to add an extra word of thanks to you for your comments on the confirmation issue. In part, what we do at saint benedict's table in Winnipeg is indebted to what you pioneered at St Gregory's. Tell me, though, are you no longer the rector there? I thought I saw that framed in past tense in your comment.

Thanks for the message Donald, I was just thinking of emailing Andy to confirm, and to ask if we should bring bedding.
