That is interesting. I think part of what is happening is that because the term emergent does not have a linguistic center so to speak, I was able to imagine emergent and McChurch in the same place.
But even if I use your definition, the problem I…
Otis, I did not know whether to laugh or cry at your idea that one of the many niches on the McChurch campus could be the room with the "emergent" folk in it.
I guess I think of "emergent" more in terms of those who (to use a time-worn analogy at t…
I read this article in horror. The scary thing is I see it happening. I would suggest however that there are people who wish to claim they are emergent as something trendy. In that context I am not sure that one could rule out an emergent McChurch.…
I know we struggle for definitions about what Emerging/Emergent/Emergence is all about, but I think the opposite of whatever it is may be "McChurch." Check out Terry Mattingly's article this week on "Theotainment".

I was not able to go. I was meeting with the downtown churches in St Pete on homeless issues. I sent an e-mail to the Bishop about Anglimergent, but have not heard back from him. I'm curious to see what he thought. It is hard for me to get to those meetings over in Tampa, so I'm on the e-mail list, but have not yet attended.
Just a reminder that we are having our third Saturday gathering on February 21, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Tre Amici at the Bunker in Ybor.
Bishop Dabney Tyler Smith of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida will be joining us. A large part of our gathering will be dialoguing with the bishop about the need for new forms--or a rediscovery--of doing church, as the church we have really isn't cutting it in the ways of intentional, communal and faithful disciplining of persons in the life of Christ. This will be more of an exploration with the bishop to give him a sense as to what is already going on in the area, and how an institutional church can learn from the good being done so to recapture the imaginations of people in the Tampa/St. Pete area. We hope to have an open dialogue about what we're seeing, and name the good of things like New Monasticism, "Deep Church", the Emerging church, Emergent Village, etc.
I was glad to hear from you. I attend the Cathedral in St Petersburg, but live up here in Clearwater. I am involved in ministry to the homeless both professionally and at the Cathedral.
