- I have a great family with three young children. Enjoying getting to know the Peak District nearby. Plenty of reading and currently working on a PhD in ecclesiology.

Struggling Bartimaeus
The story of Bartimaeus seems seems relevant at this time, and it comes in Luke’s gospel at the crucial time of Jesus approaching Jerusalem for his final week (18:43-35). Here is someone for whom life has been difficult and yet who has probably for years settled into a routine of going to a place by the roadside to beg for enough money to live off. In thinking about the shape of the church for the future, it is important that we think about how we face this task in our present context. We live in a time of change and one in which the future seems uncertain – will the economy stabilise? will we suffer terrorist attacks? will I be able to buy a house or retire at 65? In church life things don’t seem much more certain – will the Church of England manage to maintain all the current churches? ho… Continue
