Some of our Lutheran brothers and sisters (as in the ELCA) voted to open up the clergy to non-celibate gays and lesbians as well as allow individual congregations to recognize faithful, monogamous, same-sex relationships. See the news release here. Exciting news!!!

I agree with Matt. It is a wonderful time to be alive and Gay. To be a witness to change is one thing, to be part of it is something else. With each day that goes by, we hear of more instances where being Gay and living in same sex relationships is being acknowledged and welcomed where only a few years back it was rejected. It is with almost wry amusement that I see more and more people coming out Gay. Since it is unreasonable to assume that all these folks became Gay only in the last year, it stands to reason that they were always Gay but it is only now in this new era of enlightenment that they feel safe enough to do so. It is also safe to assume that it is only in the last few years that “straight” folks have acknowledged us as friends and neighbors, and for the same reasons; it is now safe to do so. I think that in the next few years we will see constant change in the number of people openly Gay. I think we will see that as heads are counted, we are not quite the minority that people once thought we were.

great reflection Matt.....we have alot of work to do....to build bridges....is a very slow task...it has been part of my self understanding for a very long time....we are who we are but we also must help other people come along and join us...gay and straight....we must be their friends, colleagues..spiritual support...and most of all witness to our love we share for the Good News for all.....to build bridges...

Hi everyone, I too am happy to see this group. I was at General Convention as a volunteer for Integrity this year! Almost every bishop and deputy I encountered spoke about 'being honest about who we are'. It's as if the Church came out of the closet! They seemed genuinely pleased to have Integrity and our allies there and were proud to be able to support our work. After reflection, I believe strongly that Church finally trusted us (queer folk). Now is the time for us to work hard on behalf of the church to reach out to new communities with our flavor of the Gospel.

Maybe now that General Convention has taken away some of the stigma about being Gay in the church.....your group will certainly grow a bit! Congratulations!

Thanks for starting this group. It seems that lately I'm encountering more and more gay Anglicans. At evening prayer everybody there is gay. That tells me that there are things worth praying for as well as giving thanks.
