Definitions

What does all this mean? What's an Anglimergent? What is emergent? Here's some resources to facilitate the conversation.

Emergent: In English, the word “emergent” is normally an adjective meaning coming into view, arising from, occurring unexpectedly, requiring immediate action (hence its relation to “emergency”), characterized by evolutionary emergence, or crossing a boundary (as between water and air). All of these meanings resonate with the spirit and vision of Emergent Village. In other languages, names for regional networks will be chosen with similarly evocative meanings.
Missional: A term describing the belief that the call of the gospel is an outward, apostolic call into the world.

Meetings

Recognizing the time-honored tradition of playfulness in the summer, Anglimergent will not be meeting in June, July and August. In September, Anglimergent will resume meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 12 noon at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3044 Longfellow Ave.

I am updating my 2011 calendar - is Anglimergent meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 12 noon at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3044 Longfellow Ave? Just asking for calendar purposes with no other agenda or editorial although I could have a number of both. The clock is ticking to see response time. 4:40pm 12/13/10

I just picked up Rowan Williams' book Where God Happens... wondering if anyone has read it and thinks it may bear on an emergent Episcopal movement?
I'll leave you with a quote:
"As time passes it will be harder to think that the church in the future will take one clear and uniform institutional shape across the globe or even throughout local communities. In some areas, the church is already beginning to exist in parallel lines, not in sealed compartments, but in different styles and idioms and with real interchange." pg. xiii
This is taken a bit out of context but generally gives me the impression of a changing and emerging church dynamic.

How can our parish churches reach out to our communities?
I'm thinking a younger crowd here in Austin.
We're thinking in terms of contemporary liturgical services...
different times... different kinds of happenings and events... internet/media outreach... etc...
I want to brainstorm.

Just dug out my Advent Liturgies to decide whether an edit is due. It looks like these are a 2005/6 edit/update. I betcha I could ramble on about liturgies, the Viqueens, the MN Goofers, the Twinkies, or any such thing and NO One would notice or care. someday I will be able to sync/link/interface all networks and thoughts but now it is just a CRAP SHOOT.

Oh, as a point of reference bishopwhipple.org is emerging as a webplace for info. It will continue its emergence as I emerge as I Drupal user/web site information coordinator.

Well John A picture of you with one scary eye and no mouth.

Perhaps that is what the church wants from you.

I love my "old" MacBook with the camera. I probably won't make any of the meetings due to a prior commitment to DIW Clericus which meets on the 2nd Wednesdays of the month. I will be following the discussion thru the podcasts that will be produced from the digital record of the gatherings - eh?

I tried adding a photo by clicking on the camera icon in the Comment Wall toolbar. It created a string that didn't look the picture I clicked. see what follows. No big deal - just thought I'd share.
