Anglimergent TEC @ General Convention 09

A group creating a prayerful space at the 2009 General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Anaheim, CA as a service to the conventioneers in order to share with the broader church what emerging worship is and looks like instead of talking about it.

I am a new member to Anglimergent and will be at General Convention, probably Wed. thru Sat. or Sun. I will be working at the Indigenous Theological Training Institute booth and will come by to connect with some other "emer-gents and ladies".

I'm currently planning to be at GC from the afternoon of Tuesday, July 7 to the afternoon of Sunday, July 12. Looks like I can get a flight from Portland and room at the Ramada Limited Suites for $448. However, I haven't actually made the reservation yet, pending some sort of idea of when the best time to be there might be.

Alas and alack, the 5th will not work for me, unless, I suppose, it's in the after-dinner hours. My parents are coming into town, and are leaving around 6. Any other sunday would be ideal, or mon/wed/fri during the week.

We can do the 5th. Bertie & Andy, you probably have the most Sunday commitments, so you should let us know what works for you.

Sunday April 5th is better. I have to finish a paper this weekend. I know the 5th is Palm Sunday, hope that is not a problem for anyone.

We could do it this Sunday in the afternoon or evening (we have plans until 2 pm in the city). Again you are welcome to our house or please suggest another place.

I will absolutely come for a meeting. Sundays are good for me. I still don't know if I can get outta work for convention, but I am interested in serving the cause.

I'm also planning on being there for the whole time. I'll be coming up from San Diego, though, so I think carpooling would be at the very least inconvenient for me :)

If we wanted to meet up sometime this week or weekend, I would be game, since I'm on break. That said, I'm usually flexible.

Bertie - excellent idea! When & where?? Who all wants to participate? If it's just a local group, John & I are happy to host at our house (or we can meet somewhere for coffee/meal) - and out of towners can skype in; if many out-of-towners want to participate, perhaps we should set up some kind of live chat?

We heard the conference rate isn't too much - like $25 per day, I think? That's for the most basic entry (to the booth area - I believe worship is free?). And even that might be covered, as there are some tickets that come with our booth (but these will go to the people who spend the most time in the booth).

The primary cost will be travel expenses: that is, your flight or gas (we should discuss carpooling), wherever you stay, and meals. Basically, it's like a week's vacation. There are deals to be had in Anaheim (it's a tourist destination, after all). And you don't have to stay the entire time.

This actually brings up a good point - we should start discussing, perhaps, how long people want to be there. John and I are willing to commit to the entire conference, and to staying in the booth most of the time. What are other people thinking? I'm going to start a discussion on this, so post there instead of the wall.
