So General synod is over, I was hoping that some of the delegates would have posted some thoughts???

Hi:

As everyone can gather, I'm quite enthused by the deacons conference just concluded at Loyola University in Chicago. Bp Jeff Lee's workshop on "Generative Christianity" was inspirational and thought provoking. I'm encouraged by the directions 'emergent' or 'generative' Christianity is taking.

The Episcopal Village West event in Portland was great! +1 to Steve's post - I would encourage anyone who is in Vancouver, Victoria or area to go and see Karen in Vancouver if you can! She has a lot to offer!

Glad to see this group among the others. I'm looking forward to seeing Karen Ward in Vancouver once again, July 9-10.

For any on the West Coast - well, actually anyone who wants to travel really I guess, the Episcopal Village West Mission Event in Portland Oregon is coming up in June - I'm signed up, I'm going - Karen asked me to help encourage other Canadians to go, so I thought I would start doing that here! If you haven't already, go check out the info on the main page of Anglimergent.

How are things going for you all in your Anglimergent journeys? We are slowly stumbling our way into something here in Victoria BC.....

Hi all,
The vision 2019 draft report is out - with some interesting material as General synod considers the next 10 year plan for the ACoC. There are two pdf documents to look at - the discussion report and the summary of the input. Here's the link
http://www.anglican.ca/v2019/report/index.htm
There's a discussion board there as well - 1 comment in the month it has been up! Maybe we could breathe some anglimergent life into it ;-)

Call me a misery guts, but I was reflecting on the 'new' approach to advent, and decided I like to old one. It seems to me that the church is buying into a secular approach to xmas which has the celebration in the build up and then moves on to something else. I want to value a season of penitance and preparation in advent as in lent, and then a season of celebration in christmas and epiphany (and easter). I'm into 'prepare the way of the Lord' as a call to self examination - which I see as frequently missing in our culture of business and denial.
So I'm making my congregation say long individual confessions, which I'm recording for posterity, before they are allowed in to xmas communion. OK not really, but I did preach on the prayer of humble access recently.

I was talking to a clergy friend the other day and we got onto the topic of the "Gloria" being left out during Advent. It seems that the way in which we celebrate Advent has changed over the years. It is not seen as heavy time of penitence, but more of expectation, waiting.
The other thought I had was, if Sunday is celebrated as a mini Easter, then we should be celebrating with joy, and not beating ourselves up with guilt. Any way tha's my thought for this Advent.

I was wondering if any one is interested in talking about the state of the Anglican communion? Is the communion a real or imagined community? Blessing's Derrick
