Luke 23:26-49

When they were taking Jesus to crucify him, they grabbed a man from Cyrene called Simon, who was coming from the fieds, and they made him pick up the cross and carry it behind Jesus

there was nothing romantic or safe about the crucifixion.  Jesus was murdered because he tool a political stand against the political ruling class.  His murder was sadistic,  in our world today many are been crucified. from the economic bail out which ministers of finance have given to ceos of financial institutions.  While thousands have lost their homes and employment.  700 billion bail out in America. 70 billion bail out in Ireland

Many people were following him and many women who were crying and shouting with sorrow

These women were revoluntaries, and that's why they got involved and supported him.  And among them was his mother, the most revolutionary of them all.  It was she who had said during her pregancy:  The powerful will be toppled from their thrones and the humble will be exalted, the hungry will be filled with good things and the rich will be left without a thing.  She was a revolutionary and a Communist before Jesus was born
