I am looking for a church in Jacksonville, FL that is involved in the Emergent/Emerging Church conversation. If anyone knows anything please let me know. My deepest desire is a church that is contemplative, liturgical and active socially.
Since the entrance requirements are rather steep in the church I pastor, St, St. Dismas' Episcopal Community, Baker Correctional Institution, I would recommend that you check out John's Cathedral. You'll find it has a very strong contemplative atmosphere, being an Episcopal Cathedral it is very liturgical and it is absolutely very active in the community -St. John's 's mission statement is: In the heart of the city with the city in its heart..The church's website can be found here: http://www.saintjohnscathedral.org/.
The webpage for St. Dismas has changed. The above is the correct one.
Also, please know that I welcome your arrival at the Cathedral, not St. Dismas. As I said above: "...the entrance requirements are rather steep in the church I pastor, St. Dismas' Episcopal Community, Baker Correctional Institution, I would recommend that you check out St.John's Cathedral."
I am a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer on Southside BLVD. We are a pretty new congregation, but you should come by and check it out if you are still looking. We're a friendly group, and I personally feel there is a lot of potential there.
