Hey all,
Attached is a proposal about how we could organize this thing called Anglimergent. It is a result of the Memphis meeting, where this need was identified. Because this our thing, all feedback and questions here will have a direct influence on how our community is structured and gets things done.
Thanks for reading and being part of this whole thing.
I like this proposed structure a lot. Makes great sense to me. Thanks for working on it.
I'll be thinking of y'all at St. Gregory's this weekend. Part of me would very much like to be there - my admiration for St. Gregory's and for so many of the people I know will be there knows no bounds - but I'm going to Albuquerque next weekend for the Richard Rohr Catholic/Emergent conference, and I have to admit that I'm ambivalent at best about the "Target B" goals (to use a bit of jargon from Memphis) of influencing the TEC institutional structures. So I won't be there, but I will be praying that y'all will have a richly blessed weekend of discernment, generative conversation, and fellowship.
I am sorry to be missing a second meeting, but am SO GLAD that this work is moving forward and that you are all gathering! Dixon and Fred, great draft for structures. Sara, Paul, Wendy, Karen, thanks for organizing.
I'm not sure if I'll be going to General Convention this summer (I was at the last two... and might take a break), but please let me know if you need more hands on deck, help in planning, etc.
Nice work on the structure. Looks good, and I love the idea of groups dissolving once a task is done. Very sane! Have a great meeting in SF, and if you need a musician in the future, let me know. I'd love to join you.
Blessings and Peace,
AH
OK Just had a chat with Karen Ward on this. It is really important that this conversation doesn't confuse people. Anglimergent TEC needs to be slightly different from the global Anglimergent network. I see now that this is a discussion about Anglimergent representation in the USA and inparticular the Episcopal Church. So please do be careful not to confuse us all!!!
I agree with Ian, care needed about terminology
- but this raises the possibility of 'national' anglimergents. Interesting with 9 Canadian anglimergents......
(thinks ...Maybe a recruiting drive is needed for anglimergent.ca)
Yes that is interesting given that both I and Karen have promoted Anglimergent in the context of those looking at Fresh Expressions Canada. In Australia these are now being strongly linked. Can this be done in Canada?
Hi Ian,
I was only recently aware that fresh expressions is happening in Canada - but then I live in the boonies of BC (think cumbria / lake district). I would be interested in how you see the difference in emphasis between anglimergent and Fresh Exp.
FWIW - I would feel Frsh Exp networks to be for those involved in that particular model of church plant, whereas Anglimergent is more focussed on anyone who is responding to PoMo church issues from an anglican perspective. Thus I could invite a range of those I know to be part of Anglimergent (inc my Bishop and a variety of lay/clergy colleagues who 'get' PoMo), whereas nobody I know is involved in a Fresh Exp project. in fact I was thinking of doing this using the tool on the web site - but decided that I wanted to nuance the invitation wording. I will still hope to get some kind of (ugh) chain email going - (ie join anglimergent and pass this on or you'll..........)
